Electrotherapy
Electrotherapy is the medical application of electric current. This is applied with the help of a special electrotherapy device by placing electrodes on the skin in the area to be treated. One or more areas can be treated simultaneously with different intensities.
The effect of electrotherapy varies greatly and depends on the shape of the electrodes or therapy rod and the form of current selected.
Aims of electrotherapy
Electrotherapy is particularly suitable for treatments in the field of orthopaedics and neurology, especially for:
- Activation of the nervous system
- Pain relief by influencing the perception of pain
- Stimulation of muscle activity
- Relaxation of the musculature
- Promoting blood circulation and metabolism
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a passive form of electrotherapy treatment in which a transducer is applied to the skin. This transmits mechanical sound waves at different frequencies to stimulate an improvement in cell metabolism. The sound waves cause a deep massage, which promotes blood circulation and thus gets cells moving.
Aims of ultrasound
The aim is to relieve pain and swelling by activating self-healing. This application is particularly helpful for tendon, muscle and bursitis inflammation.
